Nigel has praised the legacy that Stephen Sutton, who has died today, leaves behind. Stephen was diagnosed with terminal cancer aged 15 and died, aged 19, peacefully in his sleep today.
Since his diagnosis Stephen was an active fundraiser for the Teenage Cancer Trust who managed to raise more than £3.2m after news of his plight spread on social media.
Speaking from Westminster, Mr Evans said:
“I am saddened by Stephen’s death. I had the honour of meeting him when he was awarded the Kids Count charity’s Most Inspirational Young Person’s Award in 2013 and it is this legacy that he leaves behind. He was truly an inspiration to all those around him and all of those whose lives he touched. The explosion in social media support for him was testament to him as a person, the dignity with which he faced his battle with cancer and his desire to help others.”
