Nigel Evans today welcomed the Office of National Statistics’ figures on unemployment. The number of unemployed people in the UK fell by 48,000 to 2.47 million between July and September and the unemployment rate fell to 7.6%, the lowest rate in more than three years.
Speaking from Westminster, Mr Evans said:
“Unemployment figures are definitely going in the right direction. It is hugely welcome but by no means a reason to become complacent.
“It is hugely important that we continue to focus on an economy that provides jobs in the private sector and supports businesses across the UK.
“In the Ribble Valley, the unemployment claimant count is 125 lower than in October 2012 and 11 lower than in September 2013. As a constituency we are ranked in the bottom 50 for unemployment in the country but these figures go to show that there is always room for improvement and that is what we should be working towards.”
