MP for the Ribble Valley, Nigel Evans has pledged his support to the Great Daffodil Appeal, Marie Curie’s flagship annual fundraiser.
Marie Curie is the UK’s leading charity working in end of life care in the UK. By offering expert care in patient’s homes across the UK along with in their nine hospices, they help to support those living with terminal illness, and their families.
As part of Marie Curie’s support, they offer a free information and support service which provides a listening ear to any individual dealing with the aspect of death, dying and bereavement. Last year Marie Curie were able to provide direct support such as this to over 60,000 people.
The cost of providing such support relies heavily upon charitable income, and the generosity of the general public in their donations and support of campaigns such as the Great Daffodil Appeal.
This year’s Great Daffodil Appeal is Marie Curie’s 37th annual fundraiser, which each year brings together thousands of supporters from across the UK to raise money and support the charity’s ability to continue its work in end-of-life care.
Speaking on this, Nigel Evans said: “Each year Marie Curie provides essential care to those facing terminal illness along with their families. I know that Marie Curie have helped to support a great number of my constituents in the Ribble Valley, and I encourage anyone who is able to support the Great Daffodil Appeal to do so by wearing a daffodil pin and donating whatever they can.
“As we move towards a higher proportion of deaths happening at home, palliative care being given by organisations such as Marie Curie is more important than ever. By supporting Marie Curie’s fundraising appeal, we are helping to support those doctors, nurses and hospice staff working on the frontline providing vital care for those in need.”
As part of the Great Daffodil Appeal, the annual National Day of Reflection will take place on March 23rd. On this day Marie Curie are encouraging everyone to wear a daffodil pin and show their support for the work being done to support end of life care.
