Nigel Evans MP was an interested visitor to the ReUse Together centre in Blackburn.
The Ribble Valley MP popped into the showroom on Glenfield Park to see how the centre is changing lives and providing a fantastic community service in the process.
During the Christmas floods that devastated Whalley, ReUse Together staff were on hand to lend support and guidance to people whom lost everything. Mr Evans was so impressed by what he saw and heard about the centre, he took the opportunity to see first-hand.
ReUse Together is open to everyone and anyone who needs something to help make their house a home and we have new and pre-owned items such as furniture, small electrical items, beds, new mattresses, carpet tiles, some white goods, soft furnishings and the odd collectable. They also stock carpet tiles (recycled and in a variety of grades, colours, patterns etc) and we have a number carpet tiles that are no longer for suitable for domestic use and are available free of charge.
Volunteers and apprentices will be able to work alongside mentors to teach them work skills that could lead to further employment opportunities.
Mr Evans said: “It was a fantastic opportunity for me to see the marvellous work ReUse Together are doing. They were instrumental in the aftermath of the Whalley floods in getting people back on their feet so it was of great interest to see what the wider business is about.
“I had not fully appreciated, before my visit, the extent of the operation. All donations are taken in and they are entirely land-fill free, having saved five hundred tonnes from land-fills in two years! Not only do ReUse Together take in any donations and provide cheap, reliable home furnishings to those who need it most, they have a number of other facets such as professional landscaping. I was extremely happy to see that they are working with the job centre to provide valuable work experience to those looking for jobs, helping people who are applying on the job market, and teaching trades and skills to young people.
In all, ReUse Together are a passionate, creative and endlessly kind bunch of people and it was my pleasure to get an insight into how they work and to buy some kindling for my fire!
