Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans this week, attended SportsAid’s 40th Anniversary to celebrate the achievements of the next generation of British athletes.
SportsAid helps young, unfunded athletes to overcome one of their greatest barriers to success – the financial challenge of trying to become Britain’s next generation of Olympians. This funding provides athletes from a wide range of sports with the option to devote themselves solely to their sport. Without SportsAid, many of these athletes would face a hard choice over whether to continue training and competing.
Speaking from Westminster after the event, Mr Evans said;
“It was a great pleasure to have attended this event and to have met Alexandra Hartley, a promising young cricketer from Read. SportsAid athletes are the UK's brightest prospects from more than 60 sports. Typically aged 12 to 18, they receive no other funding. Her support from SportsAid will help her, and many other young athletes, achieve their potential by giving them financial backing and recognition during the critical early years of their career. Alexandra clearly has a bright future ahead of her and I wish her luck in all her future sporting endeavors”.
