Nigel attended a Parliamentary reception for Transplant 2020, raising awareness of the importance of organ donation.
Transplant 2020 is a coalition of patients, clinicians and industry that aims to promote leadership, knowledge and collaboration on organ donation and transplantation policy in the UK.
Speaking from Westminster, Mr Evans said:
"This is a wonderful campaign that will save lives. Three patients still die every day while waiting for an organ transplant.
"By raising awareness, Transplant 2020 hopes to improve the rate of consent to organ donation. The figure stood at 59% in 2013/14 and looks likely to be similar this year. The campaign aims to raise that figure to 80% over the next 5 years.
"One of the major challenges is to improve the public acceptance of organ donation - this is a societal and cultural barrier that must be overcome to save or transform lives through an organ transplant. The simple fact is that many of the organ transplant recipients I spoke to at the 2020 event would not be here today without their donors.
"I am more than happy to pledge my support for Transplant 2020. We will only improve public acceptance if we open a dialogue about the good that comes from giving consent."
