Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans has today called on Lancashire County Council to take action in the aftermath of a traffic collision on Worston Road, Clitheroe, which resulted in the serious injury of a 45 year old woman and her baby grandson.
In a letter to Lancashire County Council’s Head of Highways, Phil Durnell, Mr Evans said;
‘It seems abundantly clear to me that Worston Road should not have a 60 mph speed limit, due to the large numbers of walkers, cyclists and families with young children who use the road on a daily basis. To continue with the same classification presents a real risk that this terrible accident could be repeated.’
Speaking from Westminster today Mr Evans said;
“It should not have taken such a terrible accident to highlight the absurd classification of this road. Anyone who has travelled along it will know that Worston Road should not have a 60mph limit. That is why I have asked that Lancashire County Council designate the road as a “quiet lane”.
I am sure that this measure would have the support of the local community, with the hope that another terrible accident can be avoided.”
