Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans has today called on Lancashire County Council to reconsider their decision not to support a replacement bus service to Sabden, after the only remaining service was cancelled. It looked as if a service was going to be put in place, but 11th hour proposals were rejected by Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport John Fillis. Speaking from Westminster this morning Mr Evans said; “I do not want the issue of public transport to become a political one, with opposing council groups facing off against each other. What is most important to me is having a system of public transport in place that does not leave rural communities stranded, and negotiations that do not give people false hope. I am therefore urging Lancashire County Council to reconsider their rejection of the proposal for a new service in Sabden. Many local residents are going to be left in an impossible position if a service is not provided immediately. Students will be unable to attend college, people will not be able to attend work, elderly and vulnerable residents will be completely cut off. Indeed, many people will have moved to the village specifically because of the bus service. It is time that the residents of Sabden were provided with the bus service they need.”
