The National Farmers Union (NFU) have brought together Members of Parliament to support Back British Farming Day, celebrating the fantastic products British food and farming provides, and to recognise an industry which employs almost 4 million people and is worth more than £120 billion to the national economy.
British farming provides the foundation for the country’s largest manufacturing sector, food and drink. Along with acting as custodian of the iconic British landscape, much of which can be seen within the Ribble Valley; and is essential to the country’s net zero ambitions, with British farmers producing renewable energy that helps to power an average of 10 million UK homes.
Commenting, Nigel Evans MP said “I am incredibly proud to represent the farmers and growers here in the Ribble Valley, they not only provide high-quality, climate-friendly food for the nation but also make a huge contribution to the local economy, provide jobs, and maintain and care for the iconic British countryside that we are so lucky to enjoy within the Ribble Valley.
“The events over the past few years have shown us just how important it is to have a resilient farming sector, and I am hugely grateful to farmers here in the Ribble Valley and across the United Kingdom for the work they do. That is why this Back British Farming Day I am encouraging everyone to recognise the importance of British agriculture all it delivers to the nation.”
